GENERAL INFORMATION

The event is going to embrace a wide range of issues of Quaternary geology, geomorphology, paleoclimatology, soil science, cryolithology and other related fields of knowledge in the periglacial area of the Valdai glaciation (MIS 5d – MIS 2) of the East European Plain. The symposium will include a thematic conference and a four-day field trip. The field tour will start at Rostov Veliky (Yaroslav Region, 200 km NE of Moscow) and finish at Suzdal (Vladimir Region, 200 km east of Moscow) presenting glacial uplands and end-moraine ridges, glaciofluvial plains, lacustrine basins and Late Pleistocene periglacial phenomena.

PROGRAM

August 25th – pre-conference meetings and cultural program, registration, icebreaker reception. An optional overnight in Rostov Veliky (Yaroslavl Region)

August 26th – oral and poster conference sessions at the venue of the Rostov Kremlin Museum-Reserve with an overnight in Rostov Veliky

August 27th – field trip (Day 1). Geological and geomorphological tour introducing landscapes and Late Quaternary sections of the Rostov Lowland and the Borisoglebsk Upland. An overnight in Rostov Veliky

August 28th – field trip (Day 2). River terrace sections of the Volga-Nerl Lowland, relict Late Moscow (MIS 6) landscapes, sections of the Middle Pleistocene glacial and glaciofluvial deposits of the NE Klin-Dmitrov Ridge. An overnight in Pereslavl-Zalessky (Yaroslavl Region)

August 29th – field trip (Day 3). Historical, geoarcheological and geomorphological tour around Pereslavl-Zalessky. Geological and geomorphological tour over the contact zone of the Klin-Dmirov Ridge and Yuriev Opolye. An overnight in Yuriev-Polsky (Vladimir Region)

August 30th – field trip (Day 4). Landscapes, soilscapes and relict cryogenic polygonal topography of the Yuriev Opolye. Post-glacial deposits and soils of the Shikhobalovo Plateau. Geoarcheological tour and buried post-glacial landscapes of the Suzdal Opolye. An optional overnight in Suzdal (Vladimir Region)
